Are you smooth sailing through life? Do you have a perfect balance between work, home, social life, family, and still managing to maintain a hobby, fitness plan, diet, and perfect finances?

Don’t worry, neither are we.

This post is dedicated to exactly that: the often illusionary work-life balance we are expected to have while “adulting”.

To provide an overview, I personally am a twenty-something salaried employee. I am ever thankful for my job but with salaried pay comes unregulated work hours. Add a long commute to that mixture and my work-life balance is largely non-existent.

After leaving home around 7 am and returning home from work around 9 pm, we are still expected to make time to cook dinner, eat it, spend time with family and friends, and take care of all of the chores and life tasks that accumulate throughout the week.

End rant.

Regardless of your schedule, it is important to take at the very least a couple minutes to yourself each day. Lack of self-care and “leisure time” can add stress to an already stressful lifestyle. Without going into the well-known details, stress can take a huge toll on your mental health and well-being.

The easy option is to quit your job, and all responsibilities and aimlessly travel the world on a wanderlust journey, but that requires money and no worries.

Unfortunately, we at Café con Leite cannot promise you a better job or a more reasonable work-life schedule. We can, however, give you the following task (after you get your cup of coffee):

  1. Find five minutes you can take from your day
  2. In these five minutes, no matter where you are, ask yourself “What are the three things I can make time for in my week?”
  3. Write these three things down
  4. Make time for each of them

Personally, I have made three things a priority:

  1. Time with Family and Pets
  2. Daily Bullet Journaling
  3. Regular Exercise

Even if it is only 15 minutes a day, it is important to take a step back. Make time for the things that matter most. Create your “balance”. More importantly, be sure to take some time to enjoy your coffee (or tea).
